Rep. Abigail Spanberger, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 7th District since 2019, has been vocal about addressing certain issues as the current congressional session nears its end. In her recent tweets, she has highlighted specific legislative priorities and engagements with constituents.

On December 5, 2024, Rep. Spanberger emphasized the urgency of addressing a longstanding issue in Congress. She expressed gratitude to fellow representatives Gus Bilirakis and Raul Ruiz for their leadership on this matter. “As we approach the end of this Congress, it’s time we address this unacceptable and longstanding injustice.”

In another tweet from the same day, Rep. Spanberger urged U.S. House leadership to advance a bipartisan bill named after Major Richard Star, a decorated war veteran who retired due to combat-related injuries. The proposed legislation aims to repeal a provision preventing disabled veterans from receiving earned benefits. ” I’m urging U.S. House leadership to bring up a bipartisan bill named for the late Major Richard Star — a decorated war Veteran who medically retired due to combat-related injuries — to repeal a provision that blocks disabled Veterans from receiving the benefits they earned.”

Later on December 5, 2024, Rep. Spanberger shared her interaction with Retired Army First Sergeant David Star during a telephone town hall meeting last month. David Star is the brother of Major Richard Star and had inquired about the status of the bill named in his brother’s honor. “Last month, I spoke with Retired Army First Sergeant David Star — a Stafford County resident and the brother of Major Richard Star — when he called into my telephone town hall inquiring about the status of the bill named in his brother’s honor.”
