Amazon has announced the establishment of its fourth robotics fulfillment center in Virginia, which will be located in Goochland County. Governor Glenn Youngkin confirmed that the new facility, known as RIC6, will create over 1,000 jobs and cover a total area of 3.1 million square feet.
Governor Youngkin remarked on Amazon’s decision to expand in Virginia, stating it reflects “Virginia’s business-friendly environment and the quality of our workforce.” He added that this new development is a significant investment by Amazon and praised the partnership between the company and local communities.
Juan Pablo Segura, Secretary of Commerce and Trade, highlighted the importance of collaboration between various levels of government for smart growth. He noted that “this project is the result of long-term planning in Goochland County” with strong infrastructure support from state investments.
Holly Sullivan, Amazon’s Vice President of Worldwide Economic Development and Public Policy, expressed pride in breaking ground on their fourth center in Virginia. She emphasized that this expansion represents Amazon’s commitment to innovation and job creation within the state.
The new fulfillment center will handle small items such as books and electronics. This facility joins others like ORF3 in Suffolk opened in 2022, ORF4 set to launch later this year in Virginia Beach, and RIC4 launched last year in Henrico County.
Secretary of Transportation W. Sheppard Miller III acknowledged the role of transportation infrastructure in supporting business growth. The Commonwealth’s SMART SCALE prioritization process facilitated funding for a diverging diamond interchange near RIC6 to improve traffic flow and safety.
Goochland County Board Chairman Tom Winfree welcomed Amazon to the community, noting how its presence has already attracted necessary transportation improvements. Since 2010, Amazon has invested significantly across Virginia with more than $135 billion contributing to direct employment opportunities and additional indirect jobs statewide.
Senator Luther Cifers commended both Governor Youngkin’s leadership and Goochland County’s development efforts over recent years. Delegate David Owen also celebrated this milestone as an opportunity for local economic enhancement through substantial employment prospects.
The project was coordinated by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership alongside Goochland County authorities.
