Governor Glenn Youngkin has announced that AstraZeneca will establish its largest single manufacturing facility in Virginia. This decision is part of AstraZeneca’s plan to invest $50 billion in the United States by 2030. The announcement was made in Richmond, Virginia, with AstraZeneca CEO Pascal Soriot and White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett present.

Governor Youngkin expressed gratitude to AstraZeneca for choosing Virginia, highlighting the project’s role in creating jobs and strengthening the domestic supply chain. “I want to thank AstraZeneca for choosing Virginia as the cornerstone for this transformational investment in the United States,” said Governor Youngkin.

AstraZeneca CEO Pascal Soriot emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and job creation. “Today’s announcement underpins our belief in America’s innovation in biopharmaceuticals and our commitment to the millions of patients who need our medicines,” said Soriot.

Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Juan Pablo Segura noted Virginia’s growing reputation as a hub for life sciences innovation. “With our top-tier research institutions, skilled workforce, and commitment to advanced manufacturing, we are well-positioned to support breakthroughs that improve lives around the world,” said Segura.

Virginia House Appropriations Committee Chairman Luke Torian highlighted Virginia’s investments in life sciences and advanced manufacturing as key factors attracting AstraZeneca. Senator Creigh Deeds also praised the partnership with AstraZeneca as an opportunity for economic growth and supply chain resilience.

The new facility will incorporate AI, automation, and data analytics for production optimization across various medical fields such as oncology and rare diseases. Based in the UK, AstraZeneca operates globally with its medicines available in over 125 countries.
