Prince William County Parks and Recreation has released a list of activities for residents to consider as summer draws to a close. The schedule includes events for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and those interested in local history.

On Friday, August 1, Chinn Regional Park will host a free movie night featuring “Captain America” (PG13) from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and alcohol is not permitted at the event.

Another movie night is scheduled for Friday, August 15 at Veterans Memorial Park with a showing of “Mufasa – The Lion King.”

For those interested in wildlife, the Reptile World program will hold its final summer show at Jean C. Smith Amphitheater on Thursday, August 7 at 10:30 am. The program aims to educate audiences about reptiles and their role in the environment. Reservations can be made by calling 703-792-8780.

Live music returns on Friday, August 8 with the “Fridays at 5” concert series. Performers include Medicine Man and DJ Moe Vibez, who will offer a mix of musical genres. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Nature lovers can join Park Naturalists for a guided full moon hike along Neabsco Creek Boardwalk on Saturday, August 9 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Participants will learn about wetland plants and animals during the Sturgeon moon and finish with s’mores by the fire. The event may be canceled in case of bad weather.

The Office of Historic Preservation offers guided tours of Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park on the second and fourth weekends from May through October at set times throughout each day. Visitors can learn about Civil War history connected to Camp Jones and battles fought in the area.

On Sunday, August 24 from 11 am to 3 pm, Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park staff will commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Kettle Run with walking tours explaining its significance during the Civil War.

Water park options remain open for families looking to cool off before summer ends. SplashDown features several waterslides and a lazy river while Waterworks waterpark provides slides suitable for children as well as splash pads.

A community yard sale is scheduled at Pat White Center at Ben Lomond on Saturday, August 16 from 7 am to 1 pm.

The Walk with a Doc program continues Thursday, August 21 from noon to 1 pm. These walks are led by healthcare providers who discuss health topics before leading participants on a walk designed to promote wellness and community connection.

The fall season of Miracle League baseball begins Saturday, August 16 at George Hellwig Memorial Park with games played on an accessible field designed for youth and adults with mental or physical disabilities. Games are free for spectators and registration remains open for new participants.

Prince William County Parks encourages all residents to take part in these activities before summer ends.
