Chief Peter Newsham has announced the appointment of Captain Jaime Pavol to the position of assistant chief, following the retirement of Major Kevin Hughart.
Major Pavol, a native of Prince William County, has been with the community for over 22 years. She started her career in 2003 with the Prince William County Police Department as a patrol officer in the Operations Division and later became a detective in the Criminal Investigations Division. In 2010, she was promoted to first-line supervisor ranks with various assignments including patrol, youth services, recruiting, and basic training.
In 2019, Pavol was promoted to command-level ranks where she managed the Criminal Investigations Division’s Special Victims Bureau and served as Deputy Commander in Personnel. By 2023, she had advanced to captain rank and commanded the Operation Division’s Special Operations Bureau.
Pavol has participated in several departmental programs such as the Peer Support Team, Incident Management Team, and Women’s Mentorship Program. Her academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Bluefield College.
She is also an alumna of several leadership programs including the FBI National Academy (FBINA), Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS) at University of Richmond, University of Virginia’s LEAD program, Institute for Leadership in Changing Times (ILCT) at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State College, and Constitutional Foundations of Policing at Robert H. Smith Center for Constitution at James Madison’s Montpelier.
Effective May 17, 2025, Major Jaime Pavol will take on her new role as Assistant Chief of Support Services Division overseeing multiple bureaus including Administrative Bureau and Animal Control Bureau among others. Meanwhile, Major Jacques Poirier will assume command of Operations Division previously held by outgoing Assistant Chief Kevin Hughart.
