Attorney General Jason Miyares has achieved a legal victory compelling the AJP Educational Foundation, known as American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), to comply with a Civil Investigative Demand (CID) from the Virginia Office of the Attorney General. This demand, issued in October 2023, relates to AMP’s alleged noncompliance with state charitable solicitation laws and concerns about potential misuse of solicited funds for unauthorized purposes.
AMP initially resisted the CID by filing a petition to modify or dismiss it. However, this petition was rejected by the Richmond City Circuit Court in July 2024. Despite this ruling, AMP continued to resist compliance, prompting the Attorney General to initiate an enforcement action in January 2025.
Recently, the Richmond City Circuit Court dismissed AMP’s attempts to delay compliance further while pursuing an appeal and ruled that AMP must adhere to the CID requirements. AMP operates as a public nonprofit headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia.
The Office of the Attorney General stated that no additional comments will be provided at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
