Prince William County Parks & Recreation, in collaboration with the Virginia Recreation and Park Society, is hosting a day of free recreational activities on June 20. The event, named “Play All Day VA,” coincides with the Summer Solstice and offers an opportunity for community members to explore new parks or try out different activities without any fees. However, advance registration is required.
The initiative was originally developed by two professionals from James City County Parks and Recreation. It was later adopted as a statewide initiative by the Board of Directors for the Virginia Recreation and Park Society.
“This initiative encourages participants to get out and PLAY on the longest day of the year,” said Kat Fish, former President of VRPS and current board member, and General Manager of Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center. “The mission of Play All Day VA is to provide FREE programs and activities to the community from sunrise to sunset. This gives the community an opportunity to see what parks and recreation all is about.”
Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation has partnered with local organizations such as the Garden Club of Lake Ridge, Keep Prince William Beautiful, Prince William Area Agency on Aging, and Prince William Library System. They are offering various programs across the county.
Activities planned for the day include Adaptive Splash and Play, Family Bingocize, Water Safety Day, Storytime & STEM Activity, Jr. Lifeguard Day, Stroller Walks, Eco Explorer opportunities, Fun with Art sessions, Kid Fit Parties among others.
Further details about these activities can be found in Leisure magazine or through online registration platforms.
