Governor Glenn Youngkin has appointed Marcus Anderson as the new Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security. This appointment follows the departure of Terrance “Terry” Cole, who has taken on the role of Administrator at the Drug Enforcement Administration.
In his statement, Governor Youngkin praised Terry Cole’s contributions over the past two years. “Over the past two years, Terry Cole has led Virginia’s public safety efforts with distinction, resolve, and unwavering commitment,” he said. The governor expressed confidence in Cole’s ability to continue his leadership at a national level.
Marcus Anderson steps into his new role with extensive experience in law enforcement. Governor Youngkin highlighted Anderson’s contributions to combating opioid issues: “Marcus has been a driving force in our administration’s efforts to combat the opioid crisis and take the fentanyl epidemic head-on.”
Anderson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead. “I’m honored by Governor Youngkin’s trust and confidence in me to lead the Secretariat of Public Safety and Homeland Security,” he stated. He emphasized a focus on collaboration across various levels of law enforcement to address pressing safety issues.
With over 30 years in law enforcement, Marcus Anderson began his career with the Huntsville Police Department before joining the DEA as a Federal Agent. His roles have included significant positions within DEA operations across North America.
