June outdoor events offer fishing derby and family movie night

Looking for outdoor activities this June? A series of events are lined up, offering a range of experiences from fishing to live music and reptile shows.

The Fishing Derby, sponsored by the Bass Federation, will take place at Locust Shade Park on Saturday, June 7, from 7:30 am to 11:30 am. The event is open to children of all ages with prizes, bait, and equipment provided. While participation is free, advance registration is required.

On Wednesday, June 11, yoga enthusiasts can participate in Full Moon Yoga at Neabsco Creek Boardwalk from 8 pm to 9:30 pm. This event celebrates the Strawberry Full Moon and includes live acoustic guitar performances and meditation with sound bowls.

The Fridays at 5 concert series returns on Friday, June 13, featuring The Chocolate Factory Band. The event starts at 5 pm and includes a variety of musical genres. DJ Moe Vibez will also perform. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

For movie lovers, Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center will host a Family Movie Night in the Park on Friday, June 13. Captain America (PG-13) will be screened at sunset around 8:30 pm. Attendees should bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.

Reptile World returns to Jean C. Smith Amphitheater at Locust Shade Park on Thursday, June 26, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. This show provides an opportunity to learn about various reptiles from around the world. General admission tickets are $6 per person.
