Attorney General Jason Miyares has named Kevin Gallagher as the new Solicitor General of Virginia. Gallagher began serving in this role on August 20, following his tenure as Principal Deputy Solicitor General and Director of Tenth Amendment Litigation. He replaces Erika Maley.
Gallagher joined the Miyares administration in January 2022. Before that, he worked at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP as Counsel and clerked for Judge Alice M. Batchelder of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He holds a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law and completed his undergraduate studies at Grove City College.
The Office of the Solicitor General represents the governor, attorney general, and state agencies in appeals before the United States Supreme Court, Fourth Circuit, Virginia Supreme Court, and handles litigation in district courts and federal courts of appeals across the country.
