The Prince William County Department of Transportation has announced the completion of the Old Bridge Road Sidewalk Project. This initiative aims to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility along a busy corridor in the Occoquan District. The project introduced approximately 700 feet of new sidewalk on the north side of Old Bridge Road, stretching between Oakwood Drive and Forest Hill Road.

The newly constructed sidewalk provides vital connections for residential neighborhoods to nearby schools, a future park, a greenway trailhead, a community pool, sports courts, and the Lake Ridge Homeowners Association offices. This development offers safer and more direct access to essential destinations for residents who do not own cars.

Occoquan District Supervisor Kenny Boddye commented on the significance of this project: “Two decades ago, Prince William County was built as a bedroom community that’s car-centric, but we’re working hard to fix that. It’s often challenging and expensive work, but it’s vital for providing more connectivity and safety for everyone in our community. Step by step, sidewalk by sidewalk, we’re building a community that puts people first.”

The project’s cost totaled $1.6 million and was financed through federal and local funding sources. Dewberry Engineers Inc. initiated design work in Summer 2021 while construction was managed by M&F Concrete Inc., beginning in October 2024.

This infrastructure enhancement aligns with the county’s Mobility Strategic Plan goal to create an accessible and multimodal transportation network. It reflects Prince William County’s commitment to investing equitably in safer infrastructure focused on people.

Supervisor Boddye also praised the county’s Department of Transportation for its proactive approach: “What’s also great is our team at Transportation is excellent at finding more opportunities to connect these networks and secure outside funding to do so.”
