The Prince William County Police Department successfully collected 209 pounds of unused or expired prescription drugs, along with e-cigarette and vaping devices, during the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) national Drug Take-Back event on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

The DEA collaborates with federal, state, and local agencies twice a year to establish prescription drug take-back sites in communities across the United States. This initiative provides a safe and convenient way for individuals to remove opioids and other medications from their homes, mitigating the risk of theft or abuse. According to the DEA, these national prescription drug take-back events tackle critical public safety and public health concerns.

The DEA highlights that the majority of abused prescription drugs are acquired from family and friends, often sourced from home medicine cabinets. The events offer County residents an opportunity to help prevent drug addiction and overdose fatalities.

The agencies involved express gratitude to the public for their participation in efforts to maintain community safety and health. By turning in unwanted prescription drugs, rather than discarding them improperly, they are kept out of the waste stream and water supply.
