The Office of Community Safety joined the Prince William County Police Department on August 5 for National Night Out, an annual event focused on building relationships between law enforcement and residents. The event aimed to strengthen trust and encourage a shared approach to public safety.
During the evening, a motorcade visited neighborhoods throughout Prince William County. Officers and staff engaged with families and youth, offering information about available community resources, violence prevention programs, mental health support, and ways to get involved in civic activities.
Dr. Tauheeda Yasin, Director of the Office of Community Safety, said, “Community safety isn’t just about responding to harm, it’s about fostering resilience and connectivity in our neighborhoods through resources and collaboration.” She added that National Night Out provided an opportunity for her office to work alongside police officers while connecting with local communities.
The Office of Community Safety emphasized that its participation reflects a broader vision for public safety—one that extends beyond traditional policing by focusing on prevention and partnership with residents and organizations. The agency highlighted the importance of communication and care in defining what safety means for the community.
According to organizers, events like National Night Out help reinforce the idea that maintaining safe neighborhoods is a collective responsibility. They also serve as reminders that trust between law enforcement and the public develops gradually through ongoing conversations.
