Prince William County is offering a range of recreation programs for adults in the upcoming winter and spring seasons. The activities, which are scheduled at various community centers and parks, are aimed at encouraging creativity, education, and physical fitness among older adults.

Art classes will be held at the Pat White Center at Ben Lomond in 2026. These sessions include a winter-themed painting class on January 30, a Valentine’s Day painting event on February 13, and a springtime “Paint and Sip” on April 17. All art materials are provided for participants.

For those interested in health education, Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center has partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association to provide a free program on January 7. The session will cover basic information about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, including differences between the two conditions, stages, risk factors, ongoing research, and available FDA-approved treatments. Registration is required for this event.

Adults aged 55 and older can also take part in a free six-week workshop starting January 23 at Pat White Center at Ben Lomond. The workshop focuses on managing chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, depression, heart disease, lung or kidney disease, and fatigue. Participants will learn symptom management techniques, strategies for working with healthcare providers, action planning, problem-solving skills, decision-making processes, exercise routines for strength and endurance improvement, and healthy eating habits. This initiative is presented in partnership with the Prince William Area Agency on Aging.

A fitness program called SAIL (Stay Active and Independent for Life) begins January 5 at Pat White Center at Ben Lomond. The twelve-week program is designed to help older adults improve their strength and balance through exercises that can be performed seated or standing. Classes meet twice weekly.

In the spring months from April 13 to May 22 at Silver Lake Park, there will be a six-week Arthritis Foundation Walk with Ease Program. Each session starts with an educational discussion followed by group walks intended to help reduce pain from arthritis while improving strength and confidence in physical activity.

Tai Chi classes are also available beginning in January and March at Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center. This form of exercise is highlighted as beneficial for arthritis management and fall prevention among older adults due to its positive effects on balance and mobility.

More information about these programs can be found in Leisure magazine’s latest issue covering activities from January through April 2026.
