Prince William County is set to celebrate Park and Recreation Month in July, marking the 40th anniversary of this nationwide initiative. The month-long event, organized by the National Recreation and Park Association, aims to emphasize the vital role local park and recreation programs play in fostering stronger communities. This year’s theme is “Build Together, Play Together!”

Among the scheduled activities are Rec on Wheels events, where families can enjoy lawn games and other activities. These events will take place at various parks: Fairmont Park on July 9, Marumsco Acre Lake Park on July 16, and Cloverdale Park on July 23.

The Fridays at 5 concert series will kick off with a performance by the Special Occasions Band on July 11 at Sean T. Connaughton Plaza. Attendees can expect a mix of musical styles including R&B, Jazz, Blues, Funk, Country, Latin, Pop, Gospel and Go-Go.

The Jean C. Smith Amphitheater at Locust Shade Park will host several shows throughout July featuring puppets, reptiles, magic shows, and music performances.

For those interested in fitness activities, Pilates Reformer Foundations classes begin on July 7. Additionally, Walk with a Doc events offer community members an opportunity to engage in healthy discussions while walking together. The next walk is scheduled for July 24 at Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center.

A Summer Pass Sale is currently ongoing for those considering a membership to focus on fitness goals.

Residents are encouraged to share their experiences using #pwcPARKS and #BuildTogetherPlayTogether hashtags during their visits to parks throughout the month.
