Prince William County has completed a beautification project in the Potomac District, part of its ongoing Beautification Initiative Program. This initiative aims to enhance public spaces for residents and visitors.
The Board of County Supervisors unanimously approved the Beautification Initiative, which allocates funds to each magisterial district for landscaping improvements. Following positive feedback from seven projects completed in Fiscal Year 2024, the Board expanded funding for additional projects in Fiscal Years 2025 and 2026. These investments reflect Prince William County’s commitment to maintaining attractive public spaces.
“I’m so excited about this project because I hope our residents will understand and embrace the beauty—not just the quality of life, but the natural beauty—that we have here in the Potomac District,” said Potomac District Supervisor Andrea Bailey. “I think what this does is it brings an element of pride to the entire county.”
The Potomac Beautification Project focused on Route 1 enhancements near Marine Corps Base Quantico, extending from Joplin Road to Maureen Caddigan Way. The project aligned with the Triangle Small Area Plan and emphasized aesthetic appeal and environmental sustainability.
Two new landscaped beds were installed featuring Virginia native trees and shrubs such as River Birch, Redtwig Dogwood, Maple, Redbud, and Oak species. These were chosen for their resilience and environmental benefits. Perennial plants and ornamental grasses complement these plantings.
To promote environmental stewardship, two educational pollinator signs were added to highlight native landscaping’s importance in supporting pollinators and biodiversity.
