June marks Great Outdoors Month, providing an opportunity to explore the offerings of Prince William County Parks and Recreation. The county boasts 5,000 acres of parkland, 15 historic sites, and 60 miles of trails.
On June 7, National Trails Day encourages residents to enjoy the outdoors. “Grab your sneakers or hiking shoes and simply go for a walk in one of our parks,” states the release. For those seeking more adventure, hiking on the numerous trails is recommended. To locate specific trails or learn more about them, the RecMapper app is available.
Lake Ridge Park & Marina offers paddleboarding, kayaking, and canoeing opportunities. “Located directly on the Occoquan Reservoir in the Lake Ridge community,” this park provides public access to the Occoquan Water Trail with impressive views. The marina offers boat rentals and features amenities like playground areas and picnic facilities.
For fishing enthusiasts, Prince William County has three locations where visitors can fish for channel catfish, largemouth bass, crappie, or bluegill. A fishing license is required for individuals aged 16 and older.
The county’s parks also cater to families with playgrounds across various locations. The PWC RecMapper app serves as a resource for information on all parks.
