Beginning January 3, 2026, the County Landfill and Compost Facility will begin operating on Sundays. The Board of County Supervisors included this change in the FY2026 Budget to provide more weekend access and flexibility for residents’ household disposal needs.

The new schedule at both solid waste facilities will be: open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; and from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Residents can use the Convenience Center at either location every day for disposal of household trash, yard waste, recyclable materials, glass bottles, jugs and jars, cardboard, textiles for donation, household batteries, lead-acid batteries, motor oil, oil filters, and antifreeze. An online A to Z Disposal Guide offers information about how to dispose of over 300 different items.

Starting January 3 as well, the Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Program will be available at the landfill on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Proof of residency is required for admittance to the Landfill or Compost Facility. More details about locations, hours of operation, services provided by each facility—including identification requirements—and alternative disposal options are available at www.pwcva.gov/disposal.
