Prince William County has introduced a new interactive map designed to help residents and stakeholders track data center development throughout the county. The tool allows users to follow projects from initial land use applications through construction and completion.

The map is accessible via two platforms: County Mapper and the Planning Office’s Online Build-Out Analysis dashboard. Users can view projects by selecting either Data Center Buildings or Data Center Campuses layers, or both simultaneously. The dashboard also offers interactive data tables with separate tabs for campuses and buildings, allowing sorting and filtering based on project details.

“The data center map provides a variety of interactive information for the public on data center projects in Prince William County at various stages of development,” said Prince William County Planning Director Tanya Washington.

Project-specific information such as acreage, location, development status, planned square footage, zoning classifications, and associated zoning case numbers are available through pop-up windows on both platforms.

Development of the map involved collaboration between the Prince William County Planning Office, Department of Development Services, Department of Economic Development and Tourism, and support from the Department of Information Technology for compiling and updating data.

“Community members and members of the Board of County Supervisors have expressed interest in accessing map and project information about data center development in the county,” Washington said. “Producing the map and data tables required combining multiple data sources from multiple county departments to ensure we could provide a comprehensive view of data center development.”

The county plans to update the map and its accompanying data tables regularly as projects progress through approval stages. This approach aims to keep residents informed with up-to-date information.

“This map gives residents and decision-makers a clearer, more accessible way to see where data center projects are in the development process,” said Prince William County Executive Chris Shorter. “By bringing information from multiple departments into one interactive tool, we’re making it easier for the community to understand what’s happening, ask informed questions and stay engaged as the county plans for future growth.”
