Prince William County residents who have curbside yard waste collection can place their Christmas trees and other holiday greenery at the curb for pickup during the first two weeks of January. Before setting out their trees, residents are required to remove all ornaments, decorations, tinsel, nails, and the tree stand. The collected trees and greenery will be processed at the Prince William Compost Facility into compost and mulch.

In addition to curbside collection, residents may also recycle their trees and greenery by bringing them to specific locations. These include the Prince William County Landfill at 14811 Dumfries Road in Manassas and the Prince William County Compost Facility at 13000 Hansen Farm Road in Manassas.

Starting January 3, 2026, county facility hours will be Monday through Wednesday and Friday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended hours on Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC), located at 5399 Wellington Branch Road in Gainesville, will accept Christmas trees through January 12, 2026. The drop-off area is marked with safety cones in the parking lot to the right of the building. NOVEC will provide wood chip mulch free of charge to interested customer-owners; more information is available on their website at www.novec.com by searching for “wood chip mulch”.
