Prince William County Parks and Recreation is offering a range of programs for individuals of all ages and abilities. With National Senior Health & Fitness Day on May 25, the department highlights five programs aimed at promoting health and fitness among seniors.
The “Aquabilities” program, led by a Certified Personal Trainer, focuses on exercises in warm water to enhance flexibility, joint motion, and muscle strength while reducing pain. Sessions are held at Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center.
“Take a Walk with a Doc” encourages walking as an accessible form of exercise. Led by healthcare providers who discuss health topics, these walks offer community members a chance to connect. Registration is required for this free program taking place throughout the summer at Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center.
The Tai Chi classes offer participants the opportunity to learn this ancient Chinese martial art known for improving balance, flexibility, cardiovascular function, stress reduction, and pain relief. Beginners can join classes at no cost on the last scheduled Thursday of each month.
Pilates Reformer Foundations classes at Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center cater to beginners or those with less than a year of experience. The sessions aim to improve posture, core strength, flexibility, and balance through mobility work and strengthening exercises.
Yoga classes are available outdoors at Neabsco Creek Boardwalk. Participants can expect benefits such as improved strength, posture, balance, flexibility, reduced back pain or chronic pain relief, and stress reduction.
