Prince William County Parks and Recreation is offering a range of sports programs and clinics this fall for residents of all ages. The department has announced classes in pickleball, archery, basketball, skateboarding, and tennis at various county facilities.
Pickleball remains one of the most popular offerings. Classes are available from beginner to intermediate levels at Veterans Memorial Park. Level 1 focuses on basic strokes and rules, while level 2 builds on those skills. Level 3 is designed for players who want to improve their strategy and fine-tune their game.
Archery classes are open to families and taught by USA Archery certified instructors. Participants will learn safety procedures, proper form, and stance at Silver Lake Park and Veterans Memorial Park. All necessary equipment is provided.
Basketball instruction is available for children ages 4-15 at Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center. Sessions are organized by age group and include drills in ball handling, shooting, passing, defensive stance, as well as scrimmages. Spots remain open for the fall session starting October 25.
A separate Basketball FUNdamentals program will be held at Veterans Memorial Park beginning November 18. This class welcomes all skill levels and emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence-building through drills and practice games led by experienced coaches.
For those interested in skateboarding, classes are offered for children ages 8-15 at Scott D. Eagles Skate Park in Veterans Memorial Park. Beginners can join the Let’s Go Skate class or opt for an intermediate-advanced session to further develop their skills. The Let’s Go Skate event also provides opportunities for skaters of all abilities to participate in group instruction, games, safety demonstrations, and contests throughout October and November.
Tennis lessons are being provided for adults, teens, kids—and even tiny tots—at both Veterans Memorial Park and James Long Park. Instruction covers basic strokes as well as court etiquette and match play strategies.
Residents can find more information about these programs in the latest edition of Leisure magazine or use the RecMapper app to explore parks facilities or register for activities online.
