Prince William County Parks and Recreation is offering a range of indoor activities for children and adults during the winter months. The programs are designed to provide recreation, fitness, and opportunities for social engagement while staying indoors.

Both the Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center and Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center feature heated indoor pools open year-round. The Dale City facility has a 25-yard pool with gradual entry, open swim, lap swim times, and a 16-person Whirlpool hot tub. Maintenance will close this pool from December 16-19, suspending all aqua aerobics classes and Splash ‘n Play sessions at that location during those dates.

Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center recently reopened its natatorium after renovations that included resurfacing the leisure pool, regrouting deck areas, new racing tiles in the main pool, new lane lines, and backstroke flags. This center offers two large swimming pools, diving boards, two Whirlpool hot tubs, and two saunas. However, the Square Spa remains closed pending repairs.

Splash ‘n Play sessions are available at both centers for parents with young children aged six months to five years. At Dale City Recreation Center these sessions run Fridays from 11 am to 12:30 pm through December 15; at Chinn they occur Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1:00 to 2:30 pm through December 19.

Group fitness classes are available online throughout winter. Personal training packages are currently on sale along with student passes until the end of the year; regular membership passes will be discounted starting January 1.

Upcoming dance classes at Dale City Recreation Center include “Carnival,” which celebrates Caribbean music on February 22 (free for passholders), as well as line dancing classes held Saturdays in March for participants aged fourteen or older. Registration opens December 9.

Children can participate in Camp Chinnterfest at Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center during school breaks where supervised games and crafts are planned along with swimming activities. For younger children ages three to five there is a Hot Cocoa and Crafts program on January 12 at Chinn; registration opens December 9.

A Let it Snow art class will take place February 16 at Pat White Center at Ben Lomond for ages five to twelve where children can create themed crafts inspired by various artists. Registration begins December 9.

Families preferring home-based activities can purchase “Winter Camp in a Box,” which includes supplies and instructions for up to four children per box. These boxes must be bought online and picked up on December 19 at either Birchdale Community Center or Pat White at Ben Lomond Community Center.
