Prince William County Parks and Recreation has announced a range of programs and activities for residents throughout November. The offerings are designed to engage people of all ages in physical, educational, and recreational pursuits as the fall season progresses.

The department is launching the Prima Preschool Dance Program on November 7 at the Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center. The program introduces preschoolers to various dance styles such as ballet and jazz while helping them develop motor skills and creativity. The class is a drop-off program, requiring children to separate from their guardians.

On the same day, an educational session focused on maximizing recovery from workouts will be available. This event covers stretching, foam rolling, nutrition, and sleep strategies to help athletes and fitness enthusiasts improve performance and prevent injuries. It is free for recreation center passholders, with a $12 drop-in fee for non-members.

For individuals with disabilities, an adaptive art class is scheduled for November 12. Participants will create seasonal wreaths during this session aimed at fostering social interaction and creativity.

Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre will host an educational event on November 13 tailored for students with autism or learning disabilities. Attendees will participate in hands-on activities that explore American history through sensory experiences such as smell, touch, taste, feel, and sight.

To mark National Take a Hike Day on November 17, residents are encouraged to visit local parks and trails. Fall hiking offers health benefits like stronger muscles and bones as well as improved mood. Research by Stanford University suggests that spending time outdoors can reduce stress levels and lower the risk of depression (https://news.stanford.edu/news/2015/june/hiking-mental-health-063015.html).

A special Vinyasa Yoga session accompanied by live acoustic guitar will take place on November 18. The class encourages participants to focus on gratitude during their practice.

On November 19, sound bath therapy sessions will be offered to promote relaxation through meditation supported by sonic vibrations therapy. These practices may help reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality.

Historian Kate Bitely will present a free lecture at Occoquan Town Hall on November 20 about vigilante justice in Prince William County during the late nineteenth century. “In the late 19th century, vigilante justice struck Prince William County when tenant farmers accused of robbery and murder were seized and killed by a mob,” Bitely said in advance of her talk. “Historian Kate Bitely explores this tragic episode in a free lecture revealing the social struggles, weak law enforcement and dangers of mob rule.” The lecture is sponsored by Prince William County Office of Historic Preservation along with Historic Prince William.

Children ages five to twelve can attend Kids Night Out at Veterans Memorial Park on November 21 for an evening featuring games, music, arts-and-crafts activities under supervision while parents have time off.

The Dale City Farmers Market remains open Sundays from 8 am to 1 pm through November before switching to winter hours in December. The market features locally grown produce, meats, plants, and other goods sold directly by producers themselves—making it one of the region’s largest open-air markets.

Residents seeking more information about parks or trail locations can use resources like the PWC RecMapper app or access interactive trail maps online.
