Prince William County is preparing for the passage of Buddhist monks taking part in the “Walk for Peace” pilgrimage. The monks are traveling on foot from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C., and are expected to arrive in Prince William County in early February.
The Prince William County Police Department is working with regional public safety agencies to coordinate security measures, manage traffic, and address logistical needs during the monks’ visit. Planned stops and additional details about the route will be shared as they become available. Residents can follow updates through the police department’s Facebook and X accounts.
Officials have stated that “the monks have everything they need for their journey, including food, shoes, supplies and other necessities. They are not accepting material donations at this time.”
Community members who wish to show support are asked to do so by quietly lining streets along the route without interfering with the procession. Authorities emphasize: “Follow all instructions and guidance from law enforcement and event coordinators. Do not attempt to touch, approach or step in front of the monks. Always maintain a respectful distance. Do not walk behind or follow the monks for safety reasons.” The public is also reminded to stay out of roadways and avoid obstructing traffic.
