Prince William County announced on March 25 that it will co-host the second annual Community Volunteer Summit, aimed at helping nonprofit organizations strengthen their volunteer programs and expand services for residents. The summit is scheduled for April 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Board Chambers of the McCoart Government Center in Woodbridge.
The event matters because volunteers are central to delivering food assistance, shelter programs, and supporting parks, libraries, and schools throughout Prince William County. By equipping nonprofits with tools and strategies for effective volunteer management, the county seeks to enhance service delivery across its communities.
This year’s summit is organized in partnership with the Human Services Alliance of Greater Prince William and several community partners including the Prince William Chamber of Commerce, Sentara Health, UVA Health, Volunteer Prince William, Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE), and the Prince William County Community Foundation. Martina Jackson Green, Executive Director of the Human Services Alliance of Greater Prince William said: “As community members have increasing demands on their time, nonprofits must refine their value propositions, outreach messaging and engagement pathways. The summit provides information on developing recruitment strategies that identify target audiences, leverage digital channels and build inclusive pipelines that expand participation.”
Feedback from last year’s event indicated a need for more collaboration as well as best practices in volunteer management. Paige Thacker, Director of VCE’s Prince William Unit said: “The first summit focused on building capacity within Volunteer Prince William. This year’s event builds on that foundation by expanding support for organizations across the county. By participating in the summit, organizations can strengthen their volunteer programs and play an even greater role in supporting services and resources for residents across Prince William County.”
Each year about 3,000 volunteers contribute approximately 300,000 hours to nonprofit groups within the county—an estimated value close to $10 million—which helps local systems operate efficiently while reducing wait times for services.
Nonprofit leaders and volunteer coordinators are encouraged to attend this free event where lunch will be provided. More information about registration can be found at www.thealliancegpw.org/our-events.
