Prince William County has received a 2025 Government Experience Project Award from the Center for Digital Government in recognition of its Demographics Hub. The award, presented in the County Government Category, acknowledges the county’s efforts to improve access to demographic information for residents, businesses, and policymakers.
The Demographics Hub, launched in 2024, is an interactive web platform that provides current data on population, housing, and economic trends. The tool allows users to explore neighborhood demographic patterns, assess how growth affects local services and infrastructure, and review data that supports decisions about future projects such as police and fire stations.
County Executive Chris Shorter commented on the significance of the award: “This award highlights Prince William County’s commitment to transparency and innovation. The Demographics Hub makes complex data accessible to everyone, so that decisions about our community are grounded in accurate, timely information. By putting this data at people’s fingertips, we’re helping to build a more informed and engaged community.”
Rob Mancini, Chief Information Officer and Director of the Department of Information Technology, said: “This award reflects the innovation, dedication and ingenuity our DoIT team brings every day to improving service delivery countywide. The Demographics Hub is more than a technology solution – it’s a testament to how focusing on enhancing user experiences can transform what it means to deliver excellence, efficiency and value by making critical demographic data more accessible and actionable for every constituent.”
Developed by the Department of Information Technology’s Geospatial Technology Services Team using Environmental Systems Research Institute’s ArcGIS platform, the hub replaces static tables with dashboards and widgets designed for ease of use. Automated updates ensure users have access to the most recent data while reducing manual processes.
The Center for Digital Government’s awards recognize government entities across the United States that use technology to enhance service delivery. In 2024, Prince William County’s Demographics Hub also received a Virginia Commonwealth Technology Award for its innovative application of data analytics.
