Prince William Public Libraries announced on Mar. 31 that it will celebrate National Library Week from April 19 to April 25 with a series of events and programs for all ages.
National Library Week is an annual event that highlights the role libraries play in bringing people together, supporting lifelong learning, and sparking imagination. The library system said it aims to welcome longtime patrons as well as new visitors to explore its wide range of offerings, including free Wi-Fi, makerspaces, genealogy resources at RELIC, and special reading programs such as “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” and “Level Up Your Reading.”
According to the announcement, this year’s celebration includes several featured events: Family Story Time sessions at multiple branches for children ages one through six; a Mini Book Cart Craft workshop for adults at Haymarket Gainesville branch on April 22; and the Spring Festival on Central Green at Central Library on April 25 with activities for families such as crafts and opportunities to learn about caring for the planet.
The library also highlighted its podcast “Important Library Stuff,” which this month will feature staff discussing what they love about working at the library and how they find joy in providing services like free children’s programs or helping people discover new books or entertainment options.
National Library Week was first celebrated in 1958 and is sponsored by the American Library Association along with libraries across the country each April. Prince William Public Libraries encouraged residents to visit their website or follow them on social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube for more information about upcoming activities.
