Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) is launching its Summer Reading program titled “Color Our World” from June 16 to August 17. This initiative aims to engage the community with over 350 free programs that encourage reading, learning, and connection through creative activities.
The program is open to all ages, from infants to adults. Participants who read for a total of 500 minutes can claim a free book at their local library. Registration can be completed in person, online at pwcva.gov/library, or via the Beanstack Tracker app.
This summer’s schedule includes various events aligned with the “Color Our World” theme. Rodney Stotts, a master falconer from Washington D.C., will present “Rodney’s Raptors,” offering participants the chance to interact with live birds of prey.
Art enthusiasts can attend the “Layers of the Lake: Mixed-Media Art Class,” where local artist Kerry Molina will guide attendees in creating Virginia lake scenes using different art techniques. Registration is required for this event.
For those interested in entomology, the “Creepy Crawly Critters” sessions will provide an opportunity to learn about local insects with Prince William County’s Mosquito and Forest Pest Management team.
Additionally, PWPL will host “Summer Scares” in July, featuring activities like Diamond Dot Horror and Stuffie Taxidermy for teens and adults. The Halloween in July Story Trail invites families to enjoy a themed story walk at Haymarket Gainesville Library.
The Summer Reading program is supported by sponsors such as Amazon and Bricks & Minifigs, Woodbridge. These contributions help fund quality programming and community outreach efforts.
