As students prepare for the upcoming school year, Prince William Public Libraries are highlighting their range of programs and resources designed to support learners of all ages.
The library’s Summer Reading program concludes on Sunday, August 17. Participants who log 500 minutes of reading can claim a free book.
Chinn Park Library is offering events aimed at younger children and teens. Ricky’s Big Bus Adventure and Bus Tour introduces children ages 3–6 to bus safety with a story time followed by a tour of an OmniRide bus. The program will be repeated at Manassas City Library on Tuesday, October 21, at 10:30 a.m. For teens entering high school, Chinn Park Library will host Go2Support’s High School Crash Course on Saturday, August 2, at 2:00 p.m., where students can ask questions and receive advice from peers.
At Haymarket Gainesville Library, a FROGbots Robotics Demonstration is scheduled for Saturday, August 9, at 10:30 a.m., offering an introduction to robotics and technology. Kindergarten Camp will take place there on Thursday, August 14, at 1:00 p.m., providing activities that promote literacy and school readiness.
Adults can participate in Brain Games Challenges at Lake Ridge Library through Saturday, August 16. Those interested in puzzles and crosswords have the chance to win prizes by completing challenges during this period.
Prince William Public Libraries add new titles each week to their collection. Patrons can stay informed about new arrivals by subscribing to Wowbrary’s weekly email updates through the library website (https://www.pwcva.gov/department/library). Wowbrary allows users to discover titles suitable for both academic projects and personal interests.
The Digital Library offers access to educational resources such as Access Video on Demand, Academic OneFILE Select, JSTOR for scholarly journals, and Brainfuse HelpNow—a service that connects students with live educators for homework assistance seven days a week from 2:00–11:00 p.m.
Several library locations provide reservable study rooms accessible via the PWPL app or the library website. Montclair Library features a Gaming Lounge equipped with Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 consoles for those seeking recreational activities outside studying. Bull Run and Central Libraries offer makerspaces with creative experiences; program details are available in Explore magazine or through the Online Events Calendar under “Makerspace.”
Librarians remain available to assist patrons in finding sources or navigating digital databases.
“This school year, one of the smartest tools in your backpack isn’t found in a store—it’s your library card. Make the most of it by exploring everything PWPL has to offer,” according to Prince William Public Libraries.
