Prince William Public Libraries is launching a new reading challenge for students in grades K–12 called “Level Up Your Reading.” The program begins on September 8 and aims to encourage students to read more by tracking their reading minutes, earning prizes, and participating in a grand prize drawing.

Students can sign up for the challenge online at pwcva.gov/library, through the Beanstack Tracker app, or by visiting any Prince William Public Library location. Participants will receive a Level 1: The Beginning bookmark to track their progress. Each box on the tracker represents 20 minutes of reading, with each level requiring 400 minutes. There are ten levels in total, featuring themed names such as Rainbow Ridge, Puzzle Peak, and Mystery Maze. Reaching Level 10 leads to Champion’s Circle.

Prizes are awarded at each level when participants check in at their local library. Completing all ten levels qualifies readers for entry into a grand prize drawing. All types of reading material count toward the challenge, including books, audiobooks, and graphic novels.

The initiative builds on the success of the library’s previous program, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. The goal is to motivate students to read more frequently and enjoy the process.

Additional information about the program is available on PWPL’s podcast “Important Library Stuff.” Amazon and individual donors are supporting this effort.
