Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) has announced that Superintendent Dr. LaTanya D. McDade provided updates on student success pathways, the district’s new strategic plan, and additional key initiatives and opportunities.

Superintendent Dr. LaTanya D. McDade shared a comprehensive set of updates for September, marking National Workforce Development Month and emphasizing PWCS programs designed to prepare students for post-graduation success through career and technical education, apprenticeships, and the new 3E Readiness Framework. According to PWCS, she highlighted partnerships with local businesses and community organizations aimed at building pathways that connect classroom learning to real-world careers and professional opportunities.

According to PWCS, McDade said that PWCS families and students can access resources like Varsity Tutors, which offers free live tutoring, self-paced courses, and enrichment opportunities. She also highlights the Parent Engagement Series webinar on PSAT and SAT preparation with Khan Academy on September 9 for middle and high school students.

McDade introduced the Vision 2030 Strategic Plan, building on the previous Vision 2025 framework. This plan focuses on global competency, personalized and adaptive learning, and empowering educators. Stakeholders will be invited to provide input on the plan via an upcoming survey. McDade also reflected on Patriot Day, honoring the lives lost and heroes of September 11, emphasizing the importance of teaching students values of unity, service, and remembrance while thanking the PWCS community for their continued partnership in supporting student success.

PWCS is recognized as the second largest school division in Virginia and the 32nd largest in the nation. It serves over 90,000 students across elementary, middle, high school levels as well as preschool and specialty programs. The district offers academic specialty programs including two Governor’s Schools, dual enrollment options, Advanced Placement courses, Cambridge Programme offerings, International Baccalaureate courses along with career and technology certifications. Additionally noted are robotics programs and instruction in ten world languages. The division emphasizes sustainability efforts alongside family engagement initiatives supporting speakers of 174 languages through partnerships with businesses and community organizations. Led by Superintendent Dr. LaTanya D. McDade since her appointment earlier this year; PWCS reports a 94.3% on-time graduation rate with over $123 million in scholarships awarded to its class of 2024 graduates under governance from an eight-member elected School Board.
