Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that QualiChem, Inc. will invest $9 million to expand its operations in the City of Salem. The company, known for producing metalworking fluids and water treatment services, will create 12 new jobs as part of this expansion.
“QualiChem’s decision to expand right here in Salem speaks volumes about the Commonwealth’s competitive business climate, highly skilled workforce and strong local partnerships,” said Governor Youngkin. “We’re proud to support a company that continues to grow and thrive here in Virginia.”
The expansion involves moving administrative offices and laboratory operations into a newly acquired building at 616 Idaho Street in Salem. This move will allow increased production at their existing facility on Salem Industrial Drive.
Secretary of Commerce and Trade Juan Pablo Segura remarked, “QualiChem’s expansion highlights the strength of Virginia’s advanced manufacturing sector and the strategic value of investing in modern research and development capabilities.”
Tim Davis, President of QualiChem, noted that the new headquarters is part of a multi-year investment plan aimed at supporting growth in North America and globally. He stated, “The facility will include modern office space and a world-class laboratory designed to optimize daily collaboration, enhance innovation and attract top talent.”
Founded in 1990 as a private label water treatment blender, QualiChem entered the metalworking fluid market in 2004. The company now serves customers across 30 countries.
City of Salem Mayor Renée Turk expressed pride in QualiChem’s growth within the community: “We’re equally enthused that this expansion includes new corporate offices with their acquisition of a 48,000-square-foot building vacant since 2016.”
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership collaborated with local entities on this project. John Hull from the Roanoke Regional Partnership praised QualiChem’s continued success: “QualiChem is another great example of the level of industrial diversity that is represented by the region’s manufacturing community.”
Senator David Suetterlein celebrated the creation of new jobs while Delegate Joe McNamara commended QualiChem’s longstanding partnership with Salem.
The Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP) will support job creation efforts through consultative services and funding for recruitment and training activities.
