A Richmond City Circuit Court has found AJP Educational Foundation, known as American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), in civil contempt for failing to comply with a previous court order. The order required AMP to fully respond to a Civil Investigative Demand (CID) issued by Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares.
The Attorney General’s office initiated the CID in October 2023, citing concerns about AMP’s compliance with Virginia’s charitable solicitation law and investigating allegations that funds raised by the organization may have been used for unauthorized purposes.
After receiving the CID, AMP filed a petition to modify or set aside the demand. The court denied this request in July 2024. Despite this ruling, AMP did not provide the requested information, leading the Attorney General to seek enforcement through legal action in January 2025. In May 2025, the court directed AMP to comply with the CID, and a formal order was entered in June requiring compliance within 14 days.
According to today’s announcement, “Today, AMP was held in civil contempt of court because it failed to comply with the Court’s June order by not fully complying with and responding to the CID.”
AMP is based in Falls Church, Virginia and operates as a public nonprofit organization.
The investigation into AMP is ongoing. The Office of the Attorney General stated there would be no further comment at this time.
