A Roanoke man has admitted to robbing multiple Truist Banks in October 2022. Michael Anthony McCoy, 67, pled guilty to charges of bank robbery with the use of a dangerous weapon and another count of bank robbery.
The court documents reveal that McCoy instructed Dawn Davis, a second defendant, to write a threatening note for the robbery. On October 26, 2022, McCoy used this note at a Truist Bank on Melrose Avenue NW in Roanoke. He then approached another teller with a firearm and stole $6,485.
Two days later, McCoy targeted another Truist Bank on McClanahan Street SW and took nearly $6,000.
Dawn Davis has already pled guilty and awaits sentencing later this year.
The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Zachary T. Lee; Stephen Farina, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Richmond Division; and Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares.
The case is under investigation by the FBI and the City of Roanoke Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney John Beamer from the Virginia Attorney General’s Major Crimes and Emerging Threats Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Scheff.
