The Congresswoman’s Office Has Now Surpassed $29 Million In Backlogged IRS Refunds, Social Security Checks, VA Benefits, & More Returned to Residents of Virginia’s Seventh District

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today announced that her office has now surpassed $29 million in federal casework funds returned to residents of Virginia’s Seventh District.

Casework dollars are secured and returned by fighting for fair treatment for those having issues with a federal agency, program, or benefit. Spanberger’s office assists Virginians with many casework concerns — including backlogged Social Security checks, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, Medicare appeals, and delayed Internal Revenue Service (IRS) refunds.

Since taking office on January 3, 2019, Spanberger’s office has closed more than 6,500 cases for Virginians and returned a total of $29,098,607.

“My office is here — by definition — to serve residents of Virginia’s Seventh District. Communicating a Virginian’s issue with a federal agency, working to get timely answers and fair treatment, and returning what is owed to Virginians are some of the most direct ways to assist our neighbors,” said Spanberger. “Each member of my dedicated casework team goes to work every day to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve — whether by securing backlogged Social Security checks, getting the VA to revisit a previously denied claim, or securing long overdue IRS refunds. I encourage any Seventh District resident experiencing an issue to contact our office.”
