The Series

This is the first meeting between the two programs.

Last Time Out

A furious comeback by the George Mason women's lacrosse team in the second half was not enough as the visiting American Eagles edged the Patriots, 15-14, on Wednesday afternoon. The Patriots trailed 10-3 early in the third period, but scored eight of the next nine goals of the contest to tie the match, 11-11, with 8:44 remaining. American scored three unanswered goals to lead 14-11 with 6:57 remaining. Mason responded rattling off three straight goals, including a game-tying goal by Ioanna Mantzouratos, assisted by Lauren Distad with only :34 seconds remaining. American's Stephanie Walsh scored the game-winner with a free position goal with nine ticks left in the match to give American the win.

Patriot Points

  • Olivia O'Brien leads the Patriots with nine points (9/0), followed by Shannon Tuozzo with eight (5/3) in three games this season.
  • Mason's Olivia O'Brien (3/0) and Lauren Distad (3/1) lead the Patriots with three goals each against American.
  • Tristan Usher added four points with two goals and two assists vs. American.

Scouting East Carolina

East Carolina (3-0) is off to the best start in the program's five year history. ECU opened the season with a 13-4 road win at Radford and followed it up by dominating Winthrop (17-7) and Presbyterian (20-3) in Johnson Stadium. Nicole LeGar won the AAC Midfielder of the Week to open the season and Leah Bestany was named AAC Rookie of the Week after scoring a hat trick against Winthrop and adding two goals and an assist against Presbyterian.

Challenging Non-Conference Slate

The 2022 schedule includes games against opponents from six conferences outside of the nine-match Atlantic 10 schedule. The Patriots will host nine contests at George Mason Stadium and play opponents from the Pac-12, Big East, ACC, American, Patriot League and the NEC during the non-conference.

Next Up

The team will travel to Washington, D.C. on March 4 for a 4 p.m. match against Howard.
