George Mason University Athletics and Playfly Sports have announced an exclusive multimedia rights relationship beginning in the summer of 2022 through the 2032 academic year.
The strategic partnership will leverage Playfly's multimedia rights expertise, in addition to the company's expansive suite of marketing and media solutions, to elevate the Mason brand, fan experience and student-athlete journey.
"We are thrilled to welcome Playfly Sports Properties as our new multimedia rights partner," George Mason University Assistant VP, Director of Athletics Brad Edwards said. "During our selection process, we were impressed with the level of attention and customization the Playfly team will bring to George Mason. We are excited to grow the George Mason brand and create new revenue opportunities through this new partnership."
Together, Mason and Playfly will work to secure strategic corporate partnerships that drive a competitive, "home court advantage" atmosphere for fans and students campus wide. Playfly will broaden the impact of Mason athletics through in-person and digital opportunities such as in-arena and on-field signage, radio and TV broadcast inclusions, and special events crafted specifically for students, fans, and alumni.
"George Mason University and its athletics programs embody the complete student-athlete experience and Playfly is proud to add them to our family of properties," said Christy Hedgpeth, President at Playfly Sports Properties. "With a strong footprint in the DMV area, I am confident we will help advance Brad's vision and deepen the connection between Mason, the local community, and the alumni base near and far."
Mason is the third school to join the Playfly Sports roster for the upcoming 22-23 academic year along with East Carolina University and San Jose State University. Additionally, Mason joins a growing contingent of DMV-area properties partnered with Playfly including University of Virginia, University of Richmond, University of Maryland, Georgetown, and Old Dominion University.
In total, Playfly now oversees more than 30 collegiate and high school state association properties with integrated capabilities that expand beyond traditional multimedia rights including naming rights and valuation consulting, esports program development, direct-to-consumer technology offerings, and unique sponsorship innovations such as the recently developed Campus Cast Live broadcasts.
