Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Parishioners,
I hope you had a good celebration of the Assumption of Our Blessed Mother! The Pilgrimage to Mexico and the visit to Our Lady of Guadalupe was an incredible blessing. I prayed for the parish and for the specific intentions some of you gave me in writing.
I want to share with all of you that we are increasing our efforts to improve security on our campus. We have signed a contract with a towing company to avoid unauthorized vehicles using our parking lot, especially overnight. Also, we are forming a team of volunteers to help with safety, under the direction of the Diocesan Offices. If someone is interested in getting more involved in this critical ministry, please contact the parish office as soon as possible. As you may have noticed, we have also trimmed many trees so that there is more visibility and less opportunities for anyone to hide or throw trash into our property.
Another initiative we will have soon prepared is a pilgrimage to Philadelphia, as part of the diocesan preparations for the Golden Jubilee in 2024. We will visit the cathedral and the tombs of St. Katharine Drexel and St. John Neumann, fourth bishop of Philadelphia. Bishop Neumann attended the meeting in Rome when Pope Pius IX declared the dogma of the Immaculate Conception in 1854. He actually wrote two letters to the faithful before and after the solemn declaration. We will explore some of his thoughts as we reflect on the theme for Year 2 of the Golden Jubilee: “Rejoice!”
Finally, let us pray for all our children, youth and young adults going back to school, for all faculty and parents, that this year is full of grace, especially for those attending Aquinas.
God bless you!
Fr. Álvaro
