Riley Childs Selected for Coaching Program at 2023 WBCA Convention
George Mason women's basketball graduate student Riley Childs has been selected for the 2023 "So You Want to Be a Coach" program by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
"We are really excited for Riley to have this opportunity through the WBCA," said head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis. "Last year, current graduate assistant Livija Kakatie was accepted into this program which is designed to allow players to network with coaches and to learn from others in and around the profession."
The WBCA's "So" program was created to provide female student-athletes with an experience that can serve as the foundation for a successful coaching career. The WBCA has assembled a group of expert coaches and administrators who will serve as resources, share their knowledge and provide former student-athletes and aspiring coaches with networking opportunities that will help as them prepare to enter the coaching profession.
The Medway, Mass. native is finishing up her collegiate basketball career at Mason while working towards a Sports Management graduate certificate. She transferred from Boston University after a successful four-year career as a Terrier and graduated with the fifth-best career rebounding average in program history. This season, she is averaging 5.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and a team-leading 1.4 blocks per game for the Patriots.
"Riley is going to love her experience and take full advantage," said Blair-Lewis. "She will be able to make unbelievable connections and we are very proud to have her represent George Mason women's basketball."
The "So" program will be held from Wednesday, March 29, through Friday, March 31, 2023, during the WBCA Convention in Dallas, Texas and prior to the NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four.
