In honor of Black History Month, your local Sentara hospital will be featuring some delicious Edna Lewis recipes on Thursday, February 23.
The renowned southern chef, Edna Lewis, was born in Orange County, Virginia in 1916. She was the granddaughter of emancipated slaves. Lewis found fame in the restaurant business and published four cookbooks celebrating southern cooking. She was an inspiration for aspiring Black chefs and restauranteurs.
On Thursday, February 23, Sentara is teaming up with its hospital food partner, Morrison Healthcare, to feature recipes drawn from Edna Lewis’s cookbooks in our hospital cafeterias.
Some mouthwatering menu items include Savannah Meatloaf, Smothered Pork Chops, Red Beans & Rice, Charred Okra, Smokey Collard Greens, Vinegar Coleslaw and Coconut Poke Cake.
Join us for lunch or dinner this Thursday at your Sentara hospital cafe and help us celebrate the life and legacy of chef Edna Lewis. Food builds community!
