In response to severe flooding in Texas, Governor Glenn Youngkin has announced the deployment of two Virginia Type III Swift Water Rescue Teams. These teams, from Bristol and Virginia Beach, will assist local responders in flood-affected areas starting Monday, July 7, 2025.

Governor Youngkin expressed his support for those affected by the floods: “Our hearts go out to the families and communities in Texas who have been devastated by these historic floods. We stand in solidarity with the people of Texas, and we are committed to offering any and all support requested during this critical time.”

The teams are equipped with specialized equipment and technical rescue gear needed for navigating dangerous floodwaters. They will collaborate with local and state agencies to search impacted areas. This assistance is provided at the request of the Texas Division of Emergency Management through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a system that facilitates mutual aid among states during emergencies. More information on EMAC can be found at emacweb.org.
