Governor Glenn Youngkin and Attorney General Jason Miyares have announced an investigation into Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) following reports involving three male students. These students reportedly complained about a biological female, who identifies as male, entering the boys’ locker room and recording their reactions with a cell phone.
Governor Youngkin expressed concern over this incident, stating: “It’s deeply concerning to read reports of yet another incident in Loudoun County schools where members of the opposite sex are violating the privacy of students in locker rooms. Even more alarming, the victims of this violation are the ones being investigated—this is beyond belief.” He emphasized that every student’s “privacy, dignity and safety” should be upheld.
The Governor highlighted his administration’s model policies which require students to use locker rooms corresponding to their biological sex unless federal law dictates otherwise. Additionally, these policies mandate parental notification if a student uses a locker room differing from their biological sex, allowing parents to opt for alternative facilities for their child. Youngkin stressed that “parental rights are not negotiable.”
Attorney General Miyares criticized school boards for disregarding common sense and underscored the importance of safety and privacy over political correctness. He stated: “This is just the latest example of what happens when school boards disregard common sense. The safety, dignity, and privacy of every student in Virginia should be non-negotiable.”
