County of Prince William issued the following announcement on Nov. 25
Prince William County Animal Control Bureau began its transition into the new Animal Services Center, Tuesday, November 23, thus initiating Phase 2 of the construction project. The first phase of the project consisted of preparing the West Wing of the building for partial occupancy.
Staff worked through Thanksgiving Week to get both themselves and the animals situated inside the new building.
The West Wing of the building is set to house 48 cats and 24 dogs for routine operational purposes with additional rooms available to isolate ill animals.
Staff office spaces will also be centrally located within the building for animal care, administrative and animal control members.
Currently, the only areas that will be accessible for public view are the lobby and training room area.
With Phase 2 set to begin after the Thanksgiving holiday, the new building will be officially open to the public Saturday, November 27. Adoption services will resume, but will operate differently than before as the East Wing (Adoption Facilities) is not set to be finished until the completion of Phase 2 of construction.
The East Wing of the Animal Services Center will have nine rooms; which include housing for 28 adoptable cats with additional group housing areas for families of cats and 24 kennels for adoptable dogs. There will also be 3 rooms for small mammals (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and etc.), birds, and reptiles.
Citizens will still be able to surrender or drop off stray animals at the center. As a reminder, the Animal Services Center is a managed intake facility and all surrenders are by appointment only. Click Here
