Patriots Perform Well at the 48th Annual Paul Short Run

The George Mason men's and women's cross country teams competed against top ranked schools in the 48th annual Paul Short Invitational Friday morning at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

The race featured 3,692 college athletes dispersed over 286 teams. The Mason men's team finished first out of A-10 rivals such as Richmond, George Washington and others. The men finished 20th out 46 schools, while the women placed 35th out of 46 teams.

"Both teams performed well. This was a very deep field - definitely the deepest in the last handful of years that we've attended," said Coach Gerard. The men's team continues to work on narrowing our spread and connecting through the middle of the race. For the women, we opened up a couple newer faces, which is a big ask at this level, but they handled it very well. We continue to emphasize the process of building towards the championship portion of the season, race by race, and this was a good step."

Jack Ikenberry led the Mason men with a personal best time of 23:35.4, finishing 44th overall. He was followed by Wesley Bond who finished in 78th place, 18 spots higher than he did last year (23:51.4). Junior Joseph Queen crossed the line next for Mason in 149th place (24:26.1) with freshman Mason Love placing close behind him in 158th (24:28.2). Josh Walker rounded out Mason's top five in 165th place (24:29.7).

Finishing first among Mason's women was junior Annabelle Eastman, who beat her personal best time by almost 20 seconds, finishing in 32nd (20:10.7). Kate O'Neill crossed the finish line next for Mason in 178th (21:52.2) followed by senior Noelle Saine in 199th (21:31.1). Two freshmen, Kenzie Dillman and Katryna Aulenbach, rounded out the scoring for Mason in 285th (21:59.8) and 344th (22:32.5).
